The Jet-Black Shadow Sword (漆黒の影剣 Shikkoku no Kage Tsurugi) is an item present in the Jujutsu Kaisen: Ressurection series. It is a grade 0 cursed tool with the ability to absorb and expel shadows, it was originally owned by Megumi Fushiguro, but was stolen by Kyosei Yamikage after Megumi's fight with Kuroshiei during the Shibuya Incident.

Description[]

The Jet-Black Shadow Sword is a cursed tool resembling a sword with a double edged blade. The blade is naturally silver in color, and only gains its jet-black coloration through the absorption of shadows. The more shadows the sword absorbs, the darker its coloration will become, and as its energy depletes via use of those stored shadows, the blade will begin whitening up to a silver color.

The Jet-Black Shadow Sword possesses both a rain-guard and a cross-guard that are square-shaped and gold-colored. It has a red, equally sized cylinder as it's hilt, with no distinguishable pommel besides the marking of a black rope, which ties to two golden bells, which can be considered decorative charms used to ward off evil spirits.

Abilities[]

Shadow Absorption: This sword has the special ability to absorb natural shadows and shadow-like substances from cursed techniques, which power up its durability and attack power. Although there is a limit to how much shadows the sword can absorb (which is noted to be extremely high, given that it is a special grade cursed tool), it can constantly be recharged, even during combat.

It has been noted that recharging this blade with just natural shadows can prove to be very time consuming and inefficient, but a Ten Shadows Technique user such as Megumi can bypass this limitation by carrying the weapon inside their shadows. As another user who possesses a cursed technique related to shadows, in this case, Shadow Spirit Manipulation, Kyosei is able to naturally recharge the blade using both his own abilities and those of his summoned cursed spirits. Although it is important to note that it does consume their cursed energy over time and they have to be careful of how much shadows they let the blade absorb as to not drain too much of their own cursed energy or break the weapon by overcharging it.

This sword can also be used to absorb attacks from opponents who possess cursed techniques related to shadows, such as Kuroshiei's Piercing Shadows attack. though the limits of this cursed tool have been shown during that very same fight, as constant absorption of the cursed spirit's attacks was shown to make two small cracks across the blade, prompting Agoku Ketsuki to constantly use the maximum amount of power usable by the cursed tool in order to keep up with it's limits of absorbing shadows.

Shadow Expulsion: This sword also has the ability to expel the stored shadows inside of in in various different ways, these may vary from blasts of the shadows much like one would fire off pure cursed energy, to shaped slashes and patterns such as crescent moons and cross slashes which exist as a result of performing certain sword techniques while expelling the shadows. The blade itself can also be covered in shadows that enlarge its effective range and increase its cutting power.

Capabilities[]

High Natural Strength: Even without absorbing shadows, this cursed tool is noted to be quite strong, being able to reach an offensive level that equates to semi-grade 1 cursed tools. Although it is noted by Megumi that it is not as durable as other cursed tools in this state and that it could be prone to breaking by either striking or defending from a sufficiently strong target if the blade has not absorbed enough shadows such as Hanami. This limitation cannot be completely solved even by strengthening this sword with cursed energy, as it is a much better conductor of shadows, making it mandatory to charge this weapon for it to have any effective combat use for threats beyond that of a grade 2 level.

Augmented Strength: After absorbing a sufficient amount of shadows, this blade can slice through the bodies of grade 1 cursed spirits without too much difficulty, as demonstrated by Megumi during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons. This blade can even cut the likes of grade 0 cursed spirits such as Neriheki, Kuroshiei, and more notably, the extremely resistant Hanami; though, this was shown to have varying degrees of effectiveness, as while this blade was able to make dents to Neriheki's armored body and make cuts into Kuroshiei's skin, it was barely able to chip at Hanami's body in its natural state, with it only being able to make notable damage to Hanami's body when using the blade's ability to expel shadows. Though this increase in strength is present even without using the blade's ability to consciously expel shadows, but rather, it is a result of the blade having absorbed shadows and naturally reinforcing itself with them, with minimal energy being lost in the process. This blade has also been shown to be able to clash at an equal level against other grade 0 cursed tools that are being used by grade 0 jujutsu sorcerers, as shown during Kyosei's fight with Seitori Yomiya in the Shinkuju Showdown, where it was able to fight on an equal level against the Yomiya Family's prized inherited cursed tool, the " ".

Usage[]

Warning: The information found in this section may be outdated and should not be considered as 100% truthful until the author of this article updates the information, the rest of the information is considered to be mostly up to date with the story.

It is the go-to weapon used by Megumi Fushiguro as he states that it is very flexible in its capabilities and that it has a lot of attack potential. He mainly keeps this tool within his own shadow and uses it to exorcise cursed spirits by himself or in tandem with his shikigami as to not rely too much on enhancing his physical attacks with his own cursed energy to help manage his Hold Back better.

He does not mind sharing this weapon with others as long as they are proficient enough with weapons as he has done it before during combat with both Maki Zenin and Agoku Ketsuki, and since this sword is already charged with cursed energy, even Maki is able to use this weapon's abilities. Megumi also notes that it requires a bit of training to use this cursed tool's powers and if Yuji Itadori were to try and use it without any previous knowledge, it would probably violently and uncontrollably discharge it's energy or leak out and lose its coloration.

Megumi first used this weapon to attack Hanami during the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc, its attacks were strong enough to pierce through its incredibly durable skin, to which the cursed spirit noted its power, it was then used by Maki in a tag team swap of weapons during which she was able to cut into Hanami's arm. Megumi later used it in the Death Painting Arc to exorcise the Yasohachi Bridge curse, and later the Finger Bearer that resided within it.

During the Shibuya Incident Arc, Megumi lent this weapon to Agoku, as he trusted in the man's strength, another factor in this decision was the fact that he had already assumed that he was going to have to fight all out in order to protect his friends, which would require him to fight bare handed, meaning that the weapon would be stored in his shadow in the entire duration of the fight instead of him bringing it out to fight.

Agoku first used this weapon to kill the curse user Niji Ebina on the Fukutoshin Line Platform. He later used it during his fight against Choso, where he used it to parry and block the cursed spirits attack, as well as piercing its skin. He used the swords special attributes and abilities to surprise the cursed spirit, enough for Choso to consider it a nuisance of a weapon in the hands of a capable user.

He then used it against Pseudo-Geto along with his Black-Night Sword, where he dual-wielded the weapons while using his Cynocephaly: Ravaged War Wolf, during which he was strong enough to defend against its attacks. Although during this battle the sword started to lose it's coloration, leading him to think that it would soon break, not wanting to upset Megumi but also being in a pinch, he passed the weapon to Yuji, telling him to keep it safe for him, Yuji later gave the weapon to Mizuwa. After the conclusion of the Shibuya Incident Arc, it is currently back in the possession of Megumi.

Techniques[]

Description Technique
Black Crescent Moon (黒三日月 Kuroi Mikazuki): The user performs a sideways slash which sends a wave of shadows that are shaped in the form of a crescent moon. Megumi has used this attack against Neriheki, where it was able to notably cut the cursed spirit's armored body, against Noritoshi Kamo, where it was able to to dispel his Slicing Exorcism attack, and would later use it against Kuroshiei, where it was able to slice the cursed spirit's body. Compressed Darkness Slash (圧縮闇黒斬 Asshuku Ankokuzan): The user compresses stored shadows around the blade and either slashes the target using the increased strength of blade, or performs a slash which sends out a wave of compressed shadows, this second form has a higher cutting power than Black Crescent Moon due to it compressing more shadows. Agoku used technique twice against Kuroshiei, each time using a different style, with both styles notably slicing through Kuroshiei's body. NoImageAvailable
Shadow Beam (シャドウビーム Shadōbīmu): The user discharges a beam of shadows from tip of the blade, with it being able to pierce through objects as if it were a ray of light or to create an explosion upon contact, these effects depend on the intensity and duration of the blast. Shorenkin used this technique against Kuroshiei, where he missed the initial placement of the beam, as Kuroshiei had dodged the attack; when he tried redirecting the beam towards the cursed spirit, he was attacked by them and then saved by Agoku. The next time he used it, he performed it much quicker, managing to land a blow which created an explosion that harmed the cursed spirit. NoImageAvailable
Shadow Engulfed Blade Edge (影覆刃端 Kagefuku Hatan): The user engulfs the sword using stored shadows, this augments the strength of the cursed tool by rotating and compressing the stored shadows around the blade; it can also circulate beyond the blade's edge, with the additional range provided by this technique resembling that of a longsword, it can even absorb shadows past its usual effective range when using this technique. It is important to note that this technique cannot constantly be used as it drains power depending on how many shadows are covering blade, though it is only recommended to use a high amount of shadow energy, as it could inefficient when compared to the cursed tool's natural augmentation it does to protect itself. Both Megumi and Agoku used this technique against Kuroshiei, with them increasing the output in order match Kuroshiei's increasingly faster attacks, Kuroshiei noted this technique to be the most annoying deal with out of all of the cursed tool's attacks, as the increased range made it hard for them to approach or attack.
