Cursed Techniques (術式,, Jutsushiki?) are abilities fueled by cursed energy.[1] Different types include innate techniques, barrier techniques, shikigami, new shadow style, and more.[2]
A cursed technique is activated through the act of pouring cursed energy into it, utilizing one of two processes; Lapse or Reversal.[1] If cursed energy is comparable to electricity, cursed techniques are the appliances that use that power to function.[3] Cursed energy is processed through a procedure akin to a mathematic formula within the user to activate a cursed technique.[2]
Lapse[]
Lapse (順転,, Junten?, lit. "Forward Rotation") refers to the basic, default, or neutral state of activation for a cursed technique. To activate a cursed technique through lapse, the caster circulates their cursed energy in a forward direction to channel it into their ability.[1]
Canon Note: The Cursed Technique Lapse of the Limitless is a reinforced version of its Lapse that's activated when the technique is used to strengthen cursed energy.[1]
Reversal[]
Reversal (反転,, Hanten?, lit. "Reverse Rotation") produces positive energy by multiplying negative energy with negative energy. Negative energy isn't suitable for recovering but positive energy can heal physical injuries. However, it requires highly sophisticated manipulation of cursed energy to achieve, so the ability to do so is rare.[1][4][2]
Subtraction[]
"To excel at jujutsu is to excel at subtraction."
Cursed techniques often require hand signs (掌印,, Shōin?), empowered words (呪詞,, Jushi?), or other gestures to activate. A sorcerer's skill is determined by the degree to which they can minimize and omit these components to make their abilities more efficient. Conversely, the purposeful inclusion of incantations or rituals can elevate a cursed technique's effectiveness.[5]
Innate Techniques[]
Innate Techniques (生得術式,, Shōtoku Jutsushiki?) are unique abilities congenitally engraved into the user's body, specifically in the right prefrontal cortex of the brain.[6] Most jujutsu sorcerers are born with an innate technique that manifests around the age of five or six, which continually carves its formula into the user over time.
Innate techniques are proprietary and comprise eighty percent of a sorcerer's intrinsic skillset, making them nearly impossible to mimic, not unlike a copyrighted computer program.[7] When an individual refers to their own personal cursed technique, they're generally talking about their innate technique.[8][2]
In almost all cases, an individual possesses only a single innate technique. In especially rare cases, someone may possess more than one. This is usually through some method of acquiring the innate technique of another through highly specific methods. However, too many innate techniques will overload the user's brain.[9]
Katsuki's Element Manipulation, it allows for manipulation of natural elements such as Fire, Water, Air, Earth and more elements in both defense and offense.
Kazuo Costa
Witchcraft: Fate's Design allows the user to draw upon the powers of a Tarot card deck, with each card representing a specific ability or effect. The user can draw cards to gain unique powers based on the archetypes of the Major and Minor Arcana.
The activation involves a brief incantation that channels cursed energy into the drawn card(s). The user can draw one Major Arcana card and two Minor Arcana cards simultaneously, or they can choose to draw three Minor Arcana cards instead. The user can only draw once per hour.

Inherited Techniques[]
Inherited Techniques ((相, {{{3}}})(伝, {{{3}}})(術, {{{3}}})(式, {{{3}}}),, Sōden Jutsushiki?) are innate techniques passed down to sorcerers in the same bloodline. While sorcerers who don't come from prominent clans can inherit innate techniques, those obtained hereditarily from the ancestors of the Clan Families especially carry the title of inherited technique. The Major Clan Families have maintained their authority and prestige by passing down powerful techniques to their descendants. Therefore, a sorcerer with an inherited technique is guaranteed an important position in the family.[1][10]
Inherited Technique users have the advantage of being equipped with a manual on how to use them. However, passing down a technique through generations also presents the issue of other groups learning how the ability works, along with its shortcomings.[11]

Non-Inherited Techniques[]
While the formula for hereditary innate techniques is only accessible to members of their respective clan who inherited the engraving, innate techniques often manifest naturally within sorcerers regardless of their heritage.
Extension Techniques[]
Extension Techniques ((拡, {{{3}}})(張, {{{3}}})(術, {{{3}}})(式, {{{3}}}),, Kakuchō Jutsushiki?) are original abilities derived from innate techniques. Innate techniques cannot be changed or altered, but they can be trained and expanded on through creativity to maximize their applications into extension techniques. In the case of inherited techniques, sorcerers pass down the original moves that they create.[1][12][13]

Non-Innate Techniques[]
Cursed techniques that aren't considered innate techniques are ubiquitous skills that anyone with enough cursed energy can learn to use with enough training. However, the aptitude for learning them differs from person to person. These include barriers techniques, shikigami jutsu, and new shadow style among other techniques.[2][15]
Barrier Techniques[]
Barrier Techniques ((結, {{{3}}})(界, {{{3}}})(術, {{{3}}}),, Kekkai Jutsu?) are cursed techniques that employ barrier zones to trap entities within a space or to prevent them from entering one. Simple barriers like curtains are often employed by those without an innate technique, such as Jujutsu High assistant managers[16][17]
To create a barrier, an individual constructs a formula within themselves from scratch, adds empowered words, and then flows cursed energy through the formula to activate the technique. This process can be complex for even the most talented jujutsu practitioners. Many strong sorcerers with innate techniques can't perform barrier techniques.[18] E.g. creating a barrier is simple enough, but making it so only certain people can exit requires advanced skills.[19]

Anti-Domain Techniques[]
Anti-Domain Techniques ((対, {{{3}}})(領, {{{3}}})(域, {{{3}}})の(術, {{{3}}}),, Tairyōiki no Sube?) are countermeasures designed to withstand the can't-miss attack of opposing domain expansions. They are mainly designed for those who cannot expand their own domain for any reason.
Secret Arts (秘伝 ,, Hiden?) are unique anti-domain techniques passed down in the Major Sorcerer Families. Having existed for millennia, the Major Families have accumulated many secret skills for dealing with cursed spirits and curse users.

Shikigami Jutsu[]
Shikigami Jutsu ((式, {{{3}}})(神, {{{3}}})(術, {{{3}}}),Shikigami Jutsu?)[20] conjures shikigami to aid the user using a variety of methods. Simple shikigami can be summoned by any capable sorcerer, but some innate techniques revolve around a summoning shikigami as well.
Trivia[]
Translation Note: There are several words meaning "Technique" in Japanese, such as "Jutsu" (術,"Jutsu"?). In Jujutsu Kaisen, "Jujutsu" (呪術,, Sorcery?) and "Jutsushiki" (術式,, Cursed Techniques?) are compound words invented by Gege Akutami.
